When I was in college, I was an avid reader of People magazine. I subscribed for most of my four years of college, but I remember distinctly my first summer at Wellesley walking into the Vil every Thursday afternoon after chemistry class to buy the new People - the day it came out. It was - and still is - mindless trash, and I loved it. I've since graduated from People - the magazine, that is. Now I'm an exclusive people.com reader. And a frequent one. It's the first website I check every morning and I would say on average, I probably visit people.com about 6 times a day. Never mind that nothing much gets posted after 4 p.m., I still check it until I go to bed. But the advent of the e-mags have increased my viewing pleasure for celebrity gossip - there's not only people.com, but usweekly.com, and perezhilton.com, among others. I actually enjoy Perez Hilton, which I'm sure just lowered my IQ about 50 points just by saying it, but i find out lots of interesting celebrity tidbits there to shock and appall Birthday Boy with later on. My favorite of the celebrity sites is of course Go Fug Yourself, a site that has become so popular that its authors Jessica and Heather were actually featured in an article in the Trib yesterday - and there was a picture! They're both cute, brunette, and very well-dressed.
I don't know why I care so much about celebrity gossip. I'm not obsessed with meeting celebrities or stalking them (I'm more likely to stalk a famous chef than a movie star!), but I do love reading about their messed-up lives. It's probably the same as the reason that I love The Hills - I can't believe these people actually exist in the real world!
