I'm on an easy rotation right now. I'm done by 12:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Mondays I have outpatient clinic in the afternoon and I finish around 4:30. Wednesdays are my only really bad day, because I have to rush from the hospital where my rotation is at down to the med school, which is about 15 miles away. Parking on campus is a nightmare, so my co-student and I are always rushing to get to lecture on time. We have lectures all afternoon, and then preceptor group at the end of the lectures, where we practice presenting patients that we see on video to the chief resident. That's to help us prepare for the oral exam that we have in two weeks. I have two call nights this rotation - both of which are at the med school. My first call night was this past Tuesday - July 1 - the first day that the brand new interns started. So when I paged the resident on call, who was also dealing with a brand new intern, she sent me to the student lounge to read, and told me I should page her at 7:30 and then I could leave. So my first call lasted two hours.
So I can't figure out why I'm so tired. I'm sure that I'm still getting over my cough and that's not helping. I didn't sleep enough last weekend, what with the MD/PhD retreat (the first years in the room next to me had a party until 4 a.m. that prevented me from sleeping) and then babysitting for Cute and Cuter until pretty late on Saturday. I thought I was all caught up on sleep, but I almost overslept today and then I slept three hours this afternoon. Hopefully that'll do it. I need to get some good studying done tomorrow. I'm pretty much on pace with my reading, and if I can get through the rest of the book tomorrow, I will have gone through the whole thing once. My goal is to get through the book three times total and then do every question that I can in my question book. I'm nervous about taking the shelf exam - it's been four long years since my last multiple choice exam!
